LaffertyWhistle + Wordle

07-Aug-08

I really hope I’m not the only one who is hopelessly addicted to Wordle.

I uploaded this Wordle to the LW Ning Photos page, as well. Anyone who feels like making their own (not necessarily LW-centric) Wordle, please do: just paste in some text and go to town!

Restructuring is such an ugly word

04-Aug-08

…so let’s call it: simplification.

That is, simplifying is what I’m in the process of doing to my overall internet presence. Having felt spread somewhat too thin lately, I’m reigning myself in a bit. Here’s how I imagine it will affect things:

LaffertyWhistle will remain largely as-is. This blog and its pages will remain in tact and continue as normal (with–dare I hope?–the possibility of increased activity). As such, the LaffertyWhistle Ning network will not change. My goal is to post a weekly roundup, probably on Fridays, of notable LW news (regarding Tag Blankets & Quilties, ReadOuts, Ning, etc.). During the week, I’d like to find the time for the occasional quick post highlighting interesting things being done online (& in meatspace) by those connected by blood or friendship to LW.

My personal blogging adventures, which have been varied and widely spread, will return to their home: The Life and Times of Varjak Paul (formerly ovpaul.blogspot.com, now matthew.laffertywhistle.com). There, I hope to consolidate the things I’d been trying to do in different places, which will, I hope, result in something much more interesting. My electronic roaming (e.g. on Twitter, Del.icio.us, Google Reader, etc.) will also find a new & more permanent home at LaToVP.

What does this mean for you? Honestly, probably not much. Ha!

Still, here’s what you can do: go over to the LW network on Ning, sign up, and show the rest of us something cool (upload a picture or video, start a discussion, even drop a note on this open thread to see if I’ve got any genealogical info. you might be interested in). Also, in case you’re really interested in keeping up with my blogging (and why wouldn’t you be?), you can subscribe to my feed via email or simply add the rss feed to your reader of choice.

That’s all for now; I hope you enjoyed the weekend as much as I did!

(By the way, this post now looks very convoluted, and I apologize, but at least it’s over!)

Friendship & Le Petit Prince

24-Jul-08

We’ll be spending the weekend with some of my best friends in the world–guys I don’t get to see nearly often enough, I’m afraid–so friendship has been on my mind lately. Also, I recently discovered (thanks to one of the aforementioned friends, Le Petit Prince (available in English here).

Those things in mind, I couldn’t help but create a ReadOut especially for this weekend. It’s Le Petit Prince, but with some added front & back cover art (created at wordle.net–a terrifically addicting and fascinating site, by the way). The front cover used the text of the story. The back cover used the text of the quotes that also appear on the back cover, plus a few more that didn’t make the cut. Enjoy! Go to the ReadOuts drop.io page and check it out. (Sorry, only duplex for this one.)

LW on Ning

17-Jul-08

There are a couple discussions up on the LW Ning Network, so go sign up and check them out!

Ning

16-Jul-08

Today, I created a social network for LaffertyWistle on Ning. Not a lot going on there, yet, but that’s largely because I’m the only member. Mosey on over and join up, huh?

In other news, vacation and a colonoscopy have thrown me totally out of e-rhythm, but I’m hoping next week will see me back to business as usual.

Do I dare to eat a peach?

20-Jun-08

I felt like working on more ReadOuts, but I wanted something different to look at for a bit, so you can now find T. S. Eliot’s Prufrock & Other Observations among the collection. Enjoy!

After the Race & Two Gallants

20-Jun-08

ReadOut News: The fifth & sixth stories from Dubliners, “After the Race” and “Two Gallants”, have been added to the drop. Check it out!

I’m on a roll, what can I say?
